I created this set because I could never find two things in the market. First, a pair of pleated pants that were actually convenient to wear. Second, a boxy polo shirt in a waffle knit that had the right proportions without feeling long and sloppy.
The Goth Golf event finally gave me the excuse to make both the way I wanted, and to design them to work together as a single outfit.
The Pleated Pants
I wanted pleated trousers that solved two personal frustrations that many people share. I dislike ironing, so I sourced a cotton poly fabric that resists wrinkles, keeps its structure, and still feels light and airy. I also lengthened the rise and zip because most off the rack pleated pants make simple things inconvenient when using the bathroom.
These pants can be worn high waisted or at a regular waist. The wide, straight cut means the shape holds no matter how you style them.
The Polo Shirt
My ideal polo has always been boxy, cropped, and built from a breathable waffle knit. This fabric has an open
weave that allows ventilation without being sheer. The collar is reinforced so it does not stretch out or collapse.
Most importantly, the cropped length is engineered to sit cleanly above the waistband of the pants when worn high waisted. It creates a balanced proportion and a deliberate silhouette. When the pants are worn at a regular waist, the polo still meets the top block without bunching or looking oversized. The top and bottom were patterned at the same time so the proportions relate directly to each other.
Why I think this works together
Both pieces were developed together, which gives the outfit a cohesive shape and feel. The metal hardware matches on both items. The polo sits exactly where the rise of the pants begins. The fabrics complement each other by being structured, breathable, and light. Both pieces carry the badhabits. x TOKONOMA Goth Golf woven tag. Individually, they work well.
