The Appreciation of Finer Things, With Friends

A tokonoma or alcove, in a traditional Japanese home.

A tokonoma is a traditional Japanese alcove commonly found in tea ceremony tatami rooms where guests are received. It is a quasi-sacred space. Objects, typically a hanging artwork and ikebana, placed within the tokonoma are chosen specifically for the guests. This thoughtful and respectful gesture invites conversation and a deeper appreciation of ideas, fostering relationships.

As an inspiration for a modern creative space, the tokonoma philosophy provides a way of thinking about presentation. Careful choices and arrangement, and above all an understanding of our guests, shape what we do at TOKONOMA.
