03 THE END (FUCK ‘EM ALL)
An Exhibition of Failed Utopia and Other Fuck-ups

At the close of a tumultuous year, TOKONOMA presents THE END (Fuck ‘Em All), an exhibition about how mankind’s hubris has led to ecological collapse, societal burnout, and personal despair. Early utopias imagined social harmony through progress. Capitalism turned a utopian pursuit into endless consumption, where technological expansion and political control have produced inequality and a global ecological crisis. 

Utopia is really dystopia; a perfect society is in fact a perfect market. With a presentation of nine thought-provoking objects, this is the most poignant show yet. Together, these works confront a world that has mistaken success for meaning. Anything, even Armageddon can be packaged as content for consumption. And what’s the cost of a society with an insatiable hunger? 

In a final irony, the exhibition itself cannot escape the system it critiques. It must advertise its relevance and compete for attention in the same economy that drives depletion.
